Coffee is more than just a beverage; it has become part of daily routines for many people worldwide. In Indonesia, one of the largest coffee producers in the world, coffee culture is deeply rooted in both tradition and modern lifestyles. Research shows that moderate coffee consumption, about three to four cups per day, is generally safe for most adults and may even lower the risk of several health conditions. According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, regular coffee drinkers had a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer compared to non-drinkers. Coffee is also a natural source of antioxidants, which help protect the body from cell damage.
However, excessive consumption can have negative effects. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends limiting caffeine intake to no more than 400 milligrams per day, equivalent to about four to five cups of brewed coffee. Going beyond this limit may lead to insomnia, increased heart rate, digestive problems, or anxiety.
