Indonesia’s coffee industry is entering a period of renewed growth, driven largely by a strong recovery in robusta coffee production. According to the latest Indonesia Coffee Report, total coffee output for the 2025/26 marketing year is projected to increase significantly compared to the previous season. This growth is mainly attributed to improved weather conditions and healthier coffee trees following challenges caused by unfavorable climate patterns in earlier years. Robusta coffee remains the dominant contributor to national production, reinforcing Indonesia’s position as one of the world’s leading robusta producers.
Alongside higher production, export demand for Indonesian coffee—particularly robusta—is strengthening. Global buyers continue to seek competitively priced robusta for use in instant coffee, blends, and ready-to-drink products. Favorable exchange rates have further enhanced Indonesia’s export competitiveness, encouraging higher shipments to key markets such as Europe, which accounts for a large share of Indonesia’s robusta exports. Demand from the United States is also expected to recover as trade conditions improve, supporting overall export growth.
On the domestic front, coffee consumption in Indonesia remains resilient, reflecting the country’s strong coffee culture and expanding café scene. However, consumption growth has moderated due to rising coffee prices and pressure on consumer purchasing power. Despite this, domestic demand continues to play an important role in balancing the market. With increasing production, expanding export opportunities, and stable local consumption, the outlook for Indonesia’s coffee sector—especially robusta—appears positive in the near to medium term.
